CAWII is a 527 political action committee registered with the FEC.

We are dedicated to preventing the Iraqi War from spreading to surrounding countries, such as Syria and Iran, but especially the latter.

The overwhelming majority of the Republican Party views the Iraqi War as totally justified and we should continue to fight there until some sort of “victory” is achieved.  Many, perhaps the majority, believe, like Sarah Palin, that it is “a task from God.”

Iran has presented an unforeseen “complication” to this war from God.  Many people believe Iran is helping the insurgents with men and materiel.  They are probably right.  Others believe that Iran is developing nuclear weapons even though our CIA says these programs were halted in 2003.  We really do not know which is correct.  Regardless, many powerful forces inside and outside the Republican Party believe that for the Iraqi War to succeed, Iran must be neutralized.  Some sort of military action is necessary – probably an air bombardment program similar to the one in North Vietnam during the Vietnam War although a land war would not be excluded.

Senator McCain is a military man.  He looks at problems from a military perspective and solves them accordingly.  That is why he is so enthusiastic about the Iraqi War.  If he does not presently believe some military intervention is necessary in Iran, we believe that he will be persuaded by pro-war forces after elected.  We feel that if McCain is elected, this country will be at war with Iran within a few months after January, 2009.

The most important way to prevent this war is to withdraw our troops from Iraq as soon as possible.  As long as they are there, Iran’s actions will be a justification for expanding the war.  We believe that McCain has no intention of withdrawing our troops from Iraq soon.  If he is elected he will stay there 4 years and if he is re-elected, another 4 years after that.  Senator Obama wants to withdraw in 16 months.  This is not fast enough for us.  We want the troops out of there in 6 to 12 months.  We also want the troops out of Afghanistan soon thereafter.  The job that the troops were assigned has been completed and it is time for them to leave this country also.

Our strategy for the upcoming election is simple.  We plan to concentrate on states where the vote count is very close, but if you are from any other state, please feel free to help us in any way you can.

In these contested states a SMALL NUMBER OF HIGHLY MOTIVATED AND HARD WORKING VOTERS CAN AND PROBABLY WILL DECIDE THE ELECTION.  We hope to be this group of voters who will swing the election our way.
Presently, Senator Obama’s platform and philosophy are the closest to our goals.  His ideas do not perfectly mesh with ours, but he is the better of the two candidates.  If McCain were somehow to change his stance or platform, we would consider listening to him, but we feel this is highly unlikely.  Presently, we are therefore giving our support to Obama.

If you are interested in our movement and want to help in any way, please refer to “How to Get Started.”

CAWII was founded by Dr. Robert Marshall, M.D.

He is a physician specializing in Radiology who lives in the western suburbs of Chicago and works in hospitals in Joliet and Kankakee, Illinois.  He is the father of four children and describes himself as a “country radiologist” – one who travels to rural hospitals to practice his specialty.  He is a Vietnam Veteran.

He has voted Republican for 30 years and was the Republican nominee for Congress in 1998 in the western suburbs of Chicago.  He, therefore, helped put George Bush into office, but now regrets it greatly.  He formed this organization because he sees too many similarities of the present war to the Vietnam War, including the probability of an air bombardment of the neighboring country to Iraq, i.e., Iran.

He has become fed up with the fact that the Religious Right has essentially taken over the Republican Party.  If they kept religion to themselves, everything would be fine, but they want to force their morality upon all the rest of us.  We are not talking about abortion rights here.  Those are small potatoes.  We are talking about War.  These religious fanatics believe that wars in Iraq and Iran are God’s wars and completely justified.  The concerns of the United States are secondary.

So what do we do about terrorism if we withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan? – See the videos

We also want marked reduction in troops throughout the rest of the world.  The jobs they were assigned have been finished for years.  We must do this to decrease the number of dollars leaving our country.

We have opinions and plans on other issues – healthcare, price of gasoline, oil dependence, and recent financial meltdown – See the videos
